PoC-EeTAC SEMINAR CYCLE

The conservation and management of modern architectural heritage and landscape dilemma have been a pivotal discourse since the last decades of the 20th century, increasing its importance up to the present, whilst seeking to embrace urban planning and socio-economic sustainable development perspectives in an integrated strategy towards a conscious conservation approach.

The four-session PoC-EeTAC seminar cycle addresses one of the most pressing dilemmas in the stewardship of late-modern heritage: how to reconcile the conservation of second-half-of-the-20th-century architectural works with today’s unavoidable imperative of environmental responsibility. Many buildings of recognised cultural value from this period, often shaped by lightweight systems, innovative assemblies, and experimental materials, prove particularly vulnerable in terms of envelope performance, indoor comfort, and energy demand. Yet their architectural language, materiality, and constructive logic are integral to their identity and to the cultural values they embody.

During the PoC-EeTAC seminar cycle, diverse case studies and conservation approaches will be introduced by invited speakers, and, starting from close reading of original design intentions and construction techniques, students will have the opportunity to understand how attention to detail, materials, and conservation principles can guide retrofit strategies that minimise impact on heritage assets and their values. The results of the Co-creation Activities will be shared on the project’s Instagram feed and web page.
